I like weird stuff. The weirder the better, actually. So when I read about a random festival up in Koenji featuring surrealist stilt walkers, huge winged beasts and other oddball shit I knew I had to check it out. Koenji’s a bit like my neighbourhood: kind of a hippy feel to the place, lots of narrow pedestrian streets with shops selling everything from overpriced punk tshirts to authentic Thai food. It was a cool afternoon, and yet another example of how even a normal Sunday afternoon in Tokyo is never that normal.
Highlight for me had to be Dark Krakou, a twisted-looking ghoul who I literally stumbled across down an alleyway when I was looking for somthing to eat. I walked past it sleeping on top of some vending machines only for it to awake from its slumber and proceed to terrify the kids (and adults) nearby.
A shop that only sells tracktops = best shop in the world
