Bochum Welt is back. The Italian analog legend shares his love of sound with Ikimasho!
Gianluigi Di Costanzo, aka Bochum Welt, has been part of the woodwork at Rephlex since the release of his first single Scharlach Eingang way back in 1994. A pioneer of the Braindance sound, Di Costanzo’s first album on Sony Music Japan, Module 2 / Desktop Robotics, was followed by a double CD Rephlex release Robotic Operating Buddy – voted one of The Wire’s top 15 electronica albums in 2009.
Five years later, Bochum Welt is back – with a new album that showcases his love for dreamy soundscapes and deep underwater ambience. One for the purists, it has been made using vintage synths and analog gear.
To coincide with the release, I asked Gianluigi to pick ten random YouTube links that showcase what he’s all about. The result is an obvious love for music technology and sound. A former Apple Distinguished Professional (and currently an Apple Consultant), Gianluigi has been working for several years with Thomas Dolby and his companies that focused on productions for Steven Spielberg, David Bowie, the New York’s Guggenheim Museum and many others. Over to you, Gianluigi.
