Committing Commerical Suicide. Drum and Bass don Klute makes his picks for Ikimasho!
Tom Withers – aka Klute – has been belting out drum and bass tunes for the last twenty-odd years. He has released music on Hospital, Soul:r, Ninja Tune and Metalheadz – and in 2001 he established his own label Commercial Suicide, which has gone on to become one of the main staples in the dnb scene. His track Time 4 Change was the last tune played on-air by John Peel. He is also the drummer, vocalist and songwriter in the English hardcore band The Stupids.
I asked Tom what he thinks of Japan – and to pick a bunch of videos that showcase some of the stuff that has influenced him over the years. Klute plays Tokyo this Saturday 13 December at R-Lounge. Event page here.
“I love coming to Japan. I’ve been here many times both as Klute and with the Stupids and continue to love and embrace the culture and all the craziness that comes with it. Its just amazing to walk around an observe whats going on, whether it’s the calm and tranquility of the countryside or the strange organised chaos of the cities.”
