LIVING IN JAPAN – AND WHY IT ISN’T AS WEIRD AS PEOPLE THINK (OK, IT IS A BIT WEIRD). Justin Egli.
Who’s this guy? I’ll tell you who this guy is. It’s some random guy I met on the subway on my birthday in Tokyo a few years back. A crowd of us had just went to a strip club and I had been given a spray can of “Instant Smelly Shit” as a present. Looking back, it was quite an absurd moment, and yet it seemed perfectly normal at the time.
I wrote a bit about living in Japan for online gaming magazine Digitiser2000. People in the UK may remember Digitiser from its halcyon days on Teletext. During the years 1993 to 2003, it gained a cult following of up to 1.5 million readers – not bad for a magazine that thrived on being surreal and not taking itself seriously. In late 2014, Digitiser received an online revival of sorts with the launch of Digitiser2000.com, a website featuring a mixture of games news and reviews, articles and humour, in the traditional Digitiser offbeat style, and featuring many of the characters and features previously seen in the Teletext era.
You can read my article for Digitiser2000 here.
And stay tuned for Part 2 in which one of the characters from Digitiser will be doing a special guest post on Ikimasho!
