Like many of you around the world, my life currently revolves around working from home, followed by weekends of not doing much besides cooking, relaxing, and walking around the neighbourhood. While I obviously miss little things like just hopping on a train, or eating out for lunch, I must admit that I am enjoying this period of seclusion. I feel I have more time to exercise and generally look after myself, while also realising how much a typical 9-5 actually takes it out of me. I also realise, however, that Tokyo’s ‘light lockdown’ means I am much more fortunate than others who have pretty much been bound to their houses. There is no such enforcement here, and we are free to pretty much do what we want – the Japanese government (perhaps unwisely?) relying on each individual to take responsibility for their own actions. And so, with ‘quiet’ and ‘colour’ seeming to be the overarching theme, here is what my Tokyo looked like in April.

A quiet suburban cycle

These maroon tones seem to be everywhere at the minute

Even in reflections

The last of the sakura fell. I liked the pattern the petals made.

We’ve been trying to cook with a lot of fresh and punchy flavours lately

Spinach tacos with garlic black beans, guacamole and pickled red onion

Mrs IKIMASHO made pizza from scratch. It was the first time we had made dough.

It turned out great! We had that with a salad of cured ham and figs.

There was a lime vinaigrette that seeped down into the rice on this one

Bloody Mary French Toast where you soak the bread in Tomato juice first…

Outside, the streets are quiet

I saw Doraemon at the very start of the month when I had to catch a train…

And then a few weeks later in a garden. What a cool letter box 🙂

All is still

Sunshine and silence

A nearby lake

With lots of trees

And colour

All of Tokyo is wearing a mask

Stay safe, everyone
