Bali, it’s been a long time. Nice to see you once again!
久しぶりのバリ島。また来れてとても嬉しいです。
I used to visit Indonesia once a year between 2012 and 2015, and whether I was in Sumatra or Java, I almost always made a point of taking a short trip to Bali. It had been eight years since my last visit, and so I was excited to finally go back, especially since Mrs. IKIMASHO had never been before.
2012年から2015年の間、私は毎年インドネシアを訪れていました。スマトラ島やジャワ島に行っても、いつもバリ島を訪れるようにしていました。最後にバリ島を訪れた時から8年が経っており、妻にとっては初めてのバリ旅行だったため、久々にバリ島に行くことができて興奮していました。
Approaching Denpasar, high above the clouds, the skies were a deep blue. However 30 minutes before landing we were told we would be delayed due to the weather. Evidently, below the clouds, the weather wasn’t so pretty. This was a big surprise, as it was supposed to be dry season in Bali. In fact, in all the years I had been, it hadn’t rained once!
デンパサールに向かっている間の雲の上は晴れていて空は深い青色でした。しかし、着陸する30分前に、天候の影響で到着が遅れるというアナウンスがありました。雲の下では、大雨で荒れ模様の天候でした。バリ島は乾季のはずだったため、状況を知った時は驚いてしまいました。実際、今までバリ島を訪れた時に雨が降ったことは一度もありませんでした。
Checking into our home in Sanur: The Pavilions Bali /「ザ・パビリオンズ・バリ」：サヌールの宿泊先でのチェックイン
After clearing immigration, we met our dedicated driver who seemed to be as surprised about the rain as us. Nonetheless, he was unfazed and smiling as he handed us mineral water. Our first stop was going to be a few nights in Sanur, staying at The Pavilions Bali – an exclusive 25-villa hideaway. We are glad that we booked the airport transfer through the hotel as it saved so much hassle. (A word of warning: mid-afternoon outside Denpasar Airport can be hectic!)
入国審査を終了した後、ホテルからの送迎の運転手さんに会いました。彼も私たち同様、雨天に驚いてはいましたが、動揺する風もなく微笑みながらミネラルウォーターのボトルを手渡してくれました。最初の滞在先は、サヌールにある２５棟の高級ヴィラからなるザ・パビリオンズ・バリで, そこで２泊することになっていました。空港は大変混雑していて、ホテルを通して空港からの送迎サービスを予約しておいて良かったと思いました。（※注意事項：特に午後は、デンパサール空港周辺の交通は混雑しています。)

Our own Honeymoon Pool Villa/ 私たち専用のハネムーン プール ヴィラ
Set amid a lush tropical garden and decorated in a traditional Balinese style, our huge 180m2 Honeymoon Pool Villa even had our name on a personalised wooden plaque above the entrance. With high walls, carefully landscaped vines, and a butler service, it felt like our own secret retreat.
私たちが宿泊した広々とした180m2のハネムーンプールヴィラは、熱帯植物に囲まれた庭園の中にある伝統的なバリ様式のヴィラで、入り口には私たちの名前が記された木製の表札さえ掛けられてありました。高い壁、丁寧に手入れされたつる植物、さらにはバトラーサービスまであり、私たち専用の隠れ家のように感じました。
The Pavilions Bali: Honeymoon Pool Villa
The two-story villa featured a living space, kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor, and a bedroom upstairs. Waking in the morning to the sound of the birds, it was nice to open up the shutters and look out on the sun rising over Sanur and the serene pool below.
2階建てのヴィラは、１階にリビングスペース、台所と洗面所があり、寝室は2階にありました。朝は小鳥たちのさえずりで目覚め、雨戸を開けて、ゆっくりとサヌールの上に昇る太陽と眼下に静かなプールを眺めるのはとても気持ちの良いものでした。
Why choose Sanur? /サヌールを選ぶべき理由
Sanur on the east coast is known for its laid-back atmosphere, while Seminyak on the west for its vibrant nightlife. If you’re looking for a more relaxed and less crowded vacation, Sanur is the better choice.
東側にあるサヌールは落ち着いた雰囲気で知られるビーチリゾートで、一方、西側にあるセミニャックは賑やかなナイトライフで知られるリゾート地です。混雑を避けてのんびりとした南国でのバカンスを味わいたい方にはサヌールがおすすめです。
Heading down towards the south of Sanur there is a long sandy beach with plenty of beachfront restaurants and cafes where you can relax and enjoy picture-perfect palm trees, as well as amazing gelato. There’s culture too: during our visit we happened upon a funeral at a local temple, witnessing lots of traditional dress and gamelan music.
サヌールの南に向かうとビーチ沿いに沢山のレストランやお洒落なカフェがあり、美味しいジェラートを食べたり、絵になるヤシの木や海を眺めながらゆったりとした時間を楽しむことができます。また、サヌールでは国の文化遺産として知られているお寺を見て楽しむことができます。滞在中、散策している時に、あるお寺で葬儀が行われているところに遭遇し、様々な伝統的な衣装やガムラン音楽を経験することができました。
Unique Food Experiences / ユニークな食事の経験
As well as being able to enjoy breakfast in the villa, we had a few bespoke food experiences booked during our stay. Unfortunately our floating afternoon tea had to be moved indoors due to rain on the first day, but that didn’t stop us enjoying the treats on offer from the luxury of our living room.
ヴィラで朝食を楽しめる他に、事前にいくつかの食事体験を予約しておりました。残念ながら第一日目は雨のため、プールの中で楽しむフローティングアフタヌーンティーは室内に変更する必要がありましたが、様々な美味しいおやつや優雅な軽食をヴィラのリビングルームで満喫できました。
That night, we had an intimate evening at the resort’s Jahe restaurant, sampling their “Island of the Gods” Balinese Rijsttafel, that is, Indonesian banquet. Dining in a private gazebo, we were able to enjoy lots of little side dishes, all beautifully presented.
その夜、私たちはリゾートの「ジャヘ」レストランでインドネシア式宴会で「神々の島」というバリ式のライストターフェルを試食することができました。プライベートなガゼボで様々なサイドディッシュを味わいながらロマンチックな夕食を体験することができました。

Hello Sunshine – Goodbye Sanur / ハローサンシャイン・さよならサヌール
Thankfully, the sun did come out during our stay allowing us to enjoy some time lazing on the sundeck and exploring the grounds of the resort. The main pool, hidden away in a walled garden, was quiet and secluded. We were also able to rent bikes nearby, meaning we could explore the many backstreets of Sanur.
幸いなことに、サヌール滞在中に天気が好転し、サンデックでくつろいだり、リゾートの敷地を散策しながらゆっくり時間を過ごすことができました。メインプールは壁に囲まれ、庭園の奥まったところにありました。リゾートの近くに自転車のレンタルショップがあったおかげで、自転車でサヌールの裏道をめぐって観光することができました。
